THE LARGEST COMMUNITY SEED-BANK: WHERE?

PSW Seed Savers needs your help! You may not be aware that PSW Seed Savers owns the largest community-based seed-bank in NSW, and possibly Australia. Without some input from you, the seed-bank will be greatly diminished in the near future because more than 50% of the seed has reached, or is close to, its “best before” date.

WHAT SEED CAN YOU DONATE?

PSW Seed Savers will accept donations of any kind of open-pollinated seed, either edible or ornamental; however, there is quite a list of seed that we would like to supplement or replace. That list is attached below. Please keep the list handy and refer to it any time you harvest fruit or seed from your garden.

Whether you bought your seed from PSW Seed Savers or from another source, please consider making a donation of seed, no matter how small. Even a few seeds can be grown on to create more seeds and keep our seed-bank up to the high standard set by Annette, who leaded PSW Seed Savers over the last few years. Seeds, other than those on the list, will be gratefully accepted.
HOW TO DONATE SEED
Please put all dry seed donations, with a minimum of plant material attached (preferably none), in a paper bag labelled:
example of label
  • your name
  • your suburb
  • date seed was collected
  • name of the seed in full (including variety): eg Tomato ‘Grosse Lisse’ or Chilli ‘Jalapeno’

If you don’t know how to clean your seed, there will be a brief talk at the next PSW meeting, 2 March, on the subject.

WHERE AND WHEN DOES PSW SEED SAVERS MEET?

If you would like to know more, you are welcome at any PSW Seed Savers meeting, held fourth Saturday of each month, except December and January, at Bidjiwong Community Nursery, Ted Horwood Reserve, Renown Road, Baulkham Hills, 9am-1pm (or part thereof). The next meeting will be Saturday 28 March followed by Saturday 2 May (due to ANZAC Day public holiday on 25 April). We’d love to see you there for a great time of learning and socialising with like-minded people.

Thank you Lynne and Mark PSW Seed Savers
