Description
Aquilegia is a traditional cottage garden plant, also known as ‘Granny’s Bonnets’ or ‘Columbine’. It is an easy-care, short-lived perennial up to 80cm tall, with fern-like foliage and bonnet-shaped flowers. The seed in these packets was collected from plants that had white flowers. Aquilegias are easy to cross-pollinate so other colours may be present. In most parts of western Sydney, the plants die down in winter but will re-emerge in spring. Old plants can be untidy, so feel free to cut them back to ground level after flowering (and seed collection). Aquilegias are self-seeding, but easy to remove if growing where not wanted.
Refrigerate seed 2–6 weeks before sowing.
