Description
Asparagus ‘Mary Washington’ is a perennial plant that grows up to 150cm. This is a very popular variety. The asparagus spears are green with green tips, which are sometimes tinged with purple. In most parts of western Sydney, the plant dies down in winter and returns again in spring. Each year the plants grow a little more; by the fourth year they are ready to eat. Allow asparagus to grow in one place – it is better not to move them. Remove female plants (the ones that bear berries; unless wanting to collect seeds). Plants may last more than 20 years.
