Description
Basil ‘Dark Opal’ is an annual culinary herb to 45cm, up to 50cm wide. It has dark-purple, crinkled leaves which, occasionally, have green marbling. The sweet but slightly spicy leaves can be used fresh or dried. The coloured leaves can be used in drinks; they look particularly good in basil-flavoured vinegar. The pink, delicate flowers attract pollinators and other beneficial insects. This variety can be grown in containers or in the ornamental garden as a border plant.
This basil may cross-pollinate with other varieties of Ocimum basilicum. If collecting seed, please check the Latin names of basil and allow only one variety to be in flower at any one time.
