Description
Basil ‘Holy Thai’ (“Rama Tulsi”) is a frost-tender, fast-growing, annual to 60cm-100cm. The stems are slightly hairy; the colour may range from green to purple depending on growing conditions and plant maturity. This plant has green leaves, which are spicy with a hint of cloves. The white and mauve flowers attract pollinators and other beneficial insects. This variety is commonly used in Thai cooking and is rarely eaten raw. WARNING: ‘Holy Thai’ Basil should not be ingested by pregnant women.
Basil ‘Holy Thai’ should not be confused with the perennial Basil ‘Sacred’ (“Krishna Tulsi”).
Basil ‘Holy Thai’ has the potential to cross-pollinate with other basils labelled Ocimum tenuiflorum or Ocimum sanctum. If collecting seed, please allow only one of these types to flower at a time. Basil ‘Holy Thai’ will not cross-pollinate with most other basils, which are usually Ocimum basilicum; feel free to grow the annual, edible variety of your choice alongside Holy Thai.
