Description
Basil ‘fruity’ was donated to our seedbank under this name, with no scientific identification. It grows to 50-60cm and becomes woody at the base. The plant has a strong, sweet, fruity fragrance with noticeable aniseed undertones. The leaves are edible; the flavour has been described as cinnamon with a hint of vanilla, though not as mild as sweet or Genovese types. With its strong scent, it may confuse insect ‘pests’ trying to find food in the vegetable garden; it may also be good dried and used in potpourri. This variety is suitable for containers or garden beds and attracts pollinating insects.
As the exact species is unconfirmed, please grow it away from other flowering basils if you intend to save seed.
