Description
Basil ‘Siam Queen’ is a specific variety of Thai basil that grows up to 90cm tall. It is more tender and more fragrant than sweet basil. The plants have purple stems, mid-green leaves and small red-purple flowers. The leaves are larger than those of Thai Basil; they have a spicy, aniseed flavour. Like Thai Basil, it holds its flavour when cooked. This variety can be used in Asian dishes; it can also be eaten raw in salads. Use the leaves fresh or dried. ‘Siam Queen’ can be grown in containers or the ornamental garden. This variety bolts quickly when temperatures cool.
Thai basil may cross-pollinate with other varieties of Ocimum basilicum. If collecting seed, please check the Latin names of basil and allow only one variety to be in flower at any one time.
