Description
Carrot ‘Manchester Table’ is an heirloom variety from England. The long, smooth-skinned, light-orange carrots have rounded tips. ‘Manchester Table’ carrots have a great taste, raw or cooked.
Carrots grow straightest in a sandy soil which has not been recently enriched with compost or fertiliser.
All carrots are biennial but are usually grown as annuals for their edible roots. If you wish to collect seed, you will need an extra year to harvest it. Allow seeds to brown while still attached to the plant.
All carrots can cross-pollinate with other carrots; allow only one variety to flower at a time. This may be achieved by sowing different varieties at different times – check the days to maturity (harvest) to help stagger the flowering times. However, other factors will also determine the urge to flower, such as the weather, moisture levels and the type of soil in which the carrots are growing.
