Description
Cornflower ‘Dwarf Blue’ is an annual plant to 40cm tall. It has silvery-grey leaves, and deep blue flowers which attract pollinators and other beneficial insects. Cornflowers were traditionally used as medicinal plants. Cornflowers are drought and frost tolerant; they will grow in poor soil with minimal watering. However, they prefer full sun, moderately fertile soil and deep watering in dry periods. The soil must be well-drained.
If growing for seed, allow the flowers to remain on the plant until they are brown and dry. Cut off the stems, and place the flower heads upside-down in a paper bag to dry for a minimum of two weeks before separating the seed from the chaff. Some of the seeds will have fallen out of the flowers naturally.
