Description
Impatiens ‘Balsam’, are narrow, upright annual plants to 45cm. Deep pink, double flowers. Grows well in shady positions. Flowers attract beneficial insects. The leaves are the chosen food of the caterpillar of a variety of Hawk Moth, Theretra oldenlandiae, which is black with yellow spots and stripes, and can grow up to 7 cm long – a spectacular sight! Pupation occurs in the ground so there will be no chrysalis at the end of the feasting! Usually only one caterpillar per plant!
