Description
Lagos Spinach is a traditional African leaf crop. The plants grow 1 to 2 metres tall with attractive red plumes in summer and autumn. The green leaves turn purplish in cool weather. This drought-tolerant plant is easy to grow in most climates. It self-seeds freely. The leaves are best eaten young; used as a substitute for spinach. Cut the plant back after flowering to induce more growth. This plant is perennial but is usually grown as an annual in frosty areas.
