Description

Melissa officinalis

Lemon Balm is a perennial herb to 50cm, with culinary and medicinal uses.

Bushy plant with wrinkled leaves with a strong fragrance of lemon when brushed.

Leaves can be used for a calming lemon tea.

Leaves can also be used to flavour summer drinks, desserts and salads.

Small, yellow or white flowers attract bees.

Lemon Balm, like all members of the mint family, can be invasive so it is best grown in containers.

Protect from harsh summer sun, particularly in the afternoon.

Lemon Balm flowers do produce seed but germination can be difficult.

Plants usually propagated by root division.
