Description
Lettuce ‘Forellenschluss’ translates as ‘flashy trout back’. It is an Austrian heirloom. The green leaves are splashed with deep red. This variety is often thought to be the same as ‘Freckles’ but they have different provenance. ‘Forellenschluss’ came to Australia from Europe; ‘Freckles’ came to Australia after further breeding in America. Succession sow every three weeks to increase harvest length.
All varieties of lettuce, whether looseleaf, butterhead, cos, Romaine, or iceberg can be easily cross-pollinated with each other. If growing more than one variety for seed, the best strategy is to allow only one variety to be in flower at a time.
