Description
Lettuce ‘Little Gem’, sometimes called “mini cos”, is smaller than regular cos lettuce. This variety produces little heads, up to 15cm tall. The leaves are crunchy and juicy and have a sweet flavour. These small lettuces are surprisingly heat tolerant and can be grown year round. This variety is ideal for growing in containers. ‘Little Gem’ is not the same as “baby cos” which are immature cos plants. Succession sow every three weeks to increase harvest length.
All varieties of lettuce, whether looseleaf, butterhead, cos, Romaine, or iceberg can be easily cross-pollinated with each other. If growing more than one variety for seed, the best strategy is to allow only one variety to be in flower at a time.
