Description
Pumpkin ‘Macleay Valley Dry Red’ is a heritage variety from Macleay Valley, NSW. The vine can grow up to 15 metres long and produce 10–15 orange pumpkins per vine. The shape of the fruit may vary, even on the same vine. The fruit has dry flesh which means it is naturally drier and denser than other varieties of pumpkins.
This variety of pumpkin will cross-pollinate with any other variety of Cucurbita maxima but not with pumpkins of the species C. pepo or C. moschata. If you are collecting seeds and concerned about cross-pollination, please refer to the Latin name of squash, pumpkin and/or zucchini plants before growing.
