Description
Rockmelon ‘Eden’s Gem’, also known as ‘Rocky Ford’, is a very popular variety which was introduced in the 1860s in the USA. The vine produces small melons, about 1kg, ideal for two people. The fruit has netted skin and lime-green, sweet flesh. This variety stores well.
Vines can be trained to grow vertically, saving space and increasing airflow. Support fruit in nets.
All varieties of rockmelon can cross-pollinate with other Cucumis melo varieties, which includes melons like honeydew and ‘Santa Claus’. Rockmelons cannot easily be crossed with watermelon (except in a laboratory).
