Description
Perpetual spinach is a member of the beet family. It is eaten as spinach, raw or cooked. These plants are vigorous with large, oval-shaped leaves. It is a good variety for baby leaves. Perpetual spinach has good heat tolerance.
Botanically, perpetual spinach is the same plant as silverbeet and chard. Although both are often called ‘spinach’, neither is related to true spinach.
Like chard and silverbeet, perpetual spinach is the same species as beetroot; all can cross-pollinate. Being biennial, the seeds are not produced until the second year.
