Description
Giant spring onion is a hardy perennial plant with long, straight, hollow, blue-green stems. It does not make bulbs. As the plant ages, it forms clumps which can be divided. Plants can be harvested young to use as “green onions” or “spring onions”. They have a mild onion flavour. The plants are highly frost tolerant and drought tolerant once established. Spring onions are also called ‘Welsh onions’, ‘bunching onions’, ‘green onions’ or ‘scallions’.
