Sunflower ‘Royal Velvet’ is a multi-headed variety to 1.5 metres. The flowers are dark-red with golden yellow tips on each petal. The first flower is the largest, then smaller flowers appear as side shoots over a long period.
All sunflowers attract birds and beneficial insects to the garden. If growing for seed, protect the flower heads from birds after pollination has been completed; that is, when bees stop visiting the plants.
