Watermelon ‘Sugar Baby’ is a round fruit variety, with sweet, red flesh; serving 2–4 people. Vine can be grown on a trellis, shed, fence or along the ground. Drought resistant. Bee-pollinated. This variety is susceptible to mildew which affects the leaves, rarely, the fruit; avoid overhead watering.
Any watermelon can cross-pollinate with other varieties of watermelon but cannot cross-pollinate with rockmelons, honeydew melons or specialty-type melons like ‘Santa Claus’.
