We had another glorious Saturday perfect for Seed Savers. Seedlings from last month were transplanted from trays to individual posts. Planted this month were seeds of 67 varieties: Aquilegia, 2 types of beetroot, broccolini, 4 types of cabbage, celtuce, 3 types of chard, choy sum, garlic chives, 2 types of collard, coriander, 2 types of endive, fennel, fenugreek, hollyhock, hon tsai tai, 3 types of kale, 2 types of leek, 2 types of kohl rabi, 13 types of lettuce, 2 types of marigold, mizuna, 3 types of mustard, nigella, onion, 3 types of parsley, 4 types of radish, rocket, shallots, 3 types of silverbeet, tatsoi and 2 types of turnip.

Taking cuttings from plants to grow new plants was taught today and we will see how many grow!

The community garden at the council nursery was weeded and seeds were sorted. The Seed Saver kids present had fun washing pots and making notes. Other activities were sorting and packing seeds that had been donated back. Those present had the chance to take home seeds. Seeds will be on sale at the next meeting.

Our thanks to Sharon T, who has had to stand down, for looking after the kids and for all the work she has done behind the scenes for SeedSavers. We will miss you.

Seed Savers meets 9am-1pm on the 4th Saturday of each month at Bidjiwong Community Nursery, Baulkham Hills. All welcome, with free seedlings to take home each month from April till November. You are welcome to attend 1 meeting to see if this group suits you; if so you can become a single member for $25, or family member for $30 a year. Becoming a member is for the purpose of insurance cover and venue hire when you do any activities with us. Children from 6 years are welcome at Seed Savers.

Happy Gardening!
