Description
Basil ‘Thai’ is an annual aromatic herb which grows 60-80cm tall. This variety has smooth red stems and bright green leaves. The medium-sized leaves have a hint of liquorice and keep their flavour when cooked. The edible flowers are a dark red-purple colour; flowers taste similar to, but milder than, the flavour of the leaves. Thai basil is most often used in Asian dishes but can be substituted for other basils in Italian cuisine. It is the perfect partner to lemongrass. This variety can be grown in containers.
Sweet basil may cross-pollinate with other varieties of Ocimum basilicum. If collecting seed, please check the Latin names of basil and allow only one variety to be in flower at any one time.
