Description
Bean ‘Black Seeded Snake’ is a tall, climbing annual variety that will need support. Snake beans are best suited to hot weather. Generally, snake beans will not germinate in low soil temperatures. Black Seeded Snake is a prolific producer of stringless green pods up to 50cm in length. Best picked young (about 30cm) when pods are tender. Harvest often to keep plant producing. Cut the beans off, don’t pull.
Black Seeded Snake beans are a species of Vigna unguiculata. If growing for seed collection, check the Latin name of the beans you are about to plant: all varieties of Vigna unguiculata have the potential to cross-pollinate with each other. They will, however, not cross-pollinate with green (string) beans, kidney beans, runner beans, soybeans, adzuki beans or lablab beans, so feel free to grow these other types of beans near your snake bean of choice.
