Description
Celtuce is also known as Wosun, ‘tree lettuce’ or ‘stem lettuce’. It is a popular Asian vegetable, especially in China. The stems grow to about 30cm long. Use the young leaves like lettuce, then use the crisp, tender stalk as a celery substitute in stir fries, salads or steamed vegetables.
Celtuce, Lactuca sativa var. angustana, is the same species as lettuce and therefore can cross-pollinate with lettuce. To collect ‘pure’ seeds, ensure that only one variety is in flower at a time.
