Description
Cornflower ‘Red Ball’ is an upright annual to 80cm. It has grey/green leaves, ball-shaped red to dark pink double flowers. The flowers attract beneficial insects. Cornflower ‘Red Ball’ can be grown in containers. Cornflowers are drought tolerant, and will grow in poor soil with minimal watering. However, they prefer full sun, moderately fertile soil and deep watering in dry periods. The soil must be well-drained.
When growing for seed, allow the flowers to remain on the plant until they are brown and dry. Cut off the stems, and place the flower heads upside-down in a paper bag to dry for a minimum of two weeks before separating the seed from the chaff. Some of the seeds will have fallen out of the flowers naturally.
