Description

Nigella ‘Miss Jekyll Blue’, sometimes called ‘Love in the Mist’, is an annual herb up to 45cm tall. It has feathery foliage and blue flowers. The decorative seed pods can be used in flower arrangements. The black seeds are edible, sometimes sold as ‘black cumin’ or ‘black caraway’. They add a smoky, oniony, slightly bitter crunch to dishes.
If growing for seed collection, allow the seed pods to dry on the plant for as long as possible. Monitor for insect damage — the seeds can fall out of the pod or be eaten by insects or birds.
