Description
Zinnias are easy-to-grow, annual flowering plants that add a vibrant splash of colour to your garden or flower arrangement. Zinnias can be a little top heavy, so they may need staking. One way to prevent them growing tall and leggy is to take out the top of the plant when they reach about 30cm tall. This will encourage the plant to produce side shoots instead of a long, skinny stem. The more you pick the flowers, the more flowers you will get. If you choose not to pick the flowers, deadheading will be necessary to prolong the flowering season. In wet weather, zinnias can be susceptible to fungal problems like mildew.
All zinnias can cross-pollinate with other zinnias. Seed collected from a plant of one colour and shape may not produce the same colour and flower shape in following seasons.
