Acclimatised Seeds

Most of our seeds are grown in the western suburbs of Sydney, and are therefore adapted to our harsh summers and temperate winters.

Community Driven

Our Seed Savers team is made up of volunteers from Permaculture Sydney West who have donated seeds and freely given their time to ensure the information on our seeds is as accurate as possible.

No Hybrid, No GMO

Our seeds are open-pollinated and grown without the use of chemicals in the form of fertilisers, herbicides, pesticides or fungicides. There are no GMO seeds or hybrid (‘F1’) seeds for sale from our Seed Bank.

Not-for-Profit

Seeds are packed in sizes suitable to a family of four, to be grown in a single season. Large quantities of one type of seed are therefore not available to members. The quantity of seed in a packet is clearly shown; if it’s not enough, please order two packets.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I order seeds some other way?

Seeds are available for sale at the PSW meetings held in Wentworthville, first Monday of the month (except January), 7pm. Sales are cash only and we cannot offer change for more than $10. Use this Catalogue to check out what you’d like to buy and either pre-order (handling fee $2) by using the checkout on this site, or make a list and buy what you want at the Monday meeting.

Please note: only seed that can be sown in the current month is brought to the meeting.

Seeds for mail order or pick up can only be ordered through the checkout on this website. Please do not try to order through The Secretary or by directly contacting a member of the Executive or Seed Savers team.

Who can purchase seeds from PSW Seed Savers?

This offer to mail seed is only available to current financial members of Permaculture Sydney West (PSW).

Are there any limits on seed orders?

For those who joined PSW after 30 June 2023, there is a limit of 20 packets of seeds (you may not order seed labelled ‘rare’) plus a three-month wait before the next order can be placed.

This does not apply to returning members: those who renewed after 30 June 2023.

Some seed is in short supply, so this system is operated on a ‘first come, first served’ basis.

How much is shipping and handling?

The basic cost for shipping and handling is $5.00 for standard letter mail. How long this takes to reach you after it is posted is in the hands of Australia Post.

Express Post is $10 and should reach you on a Tuesday or Wednesday.

If your order is too big to fit in the envelope we use, you will be contacted and asked to pay further shipping costs.

Your order is not packed until full payment, including shipping and handling, is made. All seeds ae posted on Mondays only.

Can I pickup my order?

You can arrange pick up of your order from a monthly PSW meeting (first Monday of the month), at a Seed Savers meeting (2nd Saturday of the month, except January) or contactless from Emu Heights (where the seed is stored) rather than wait for it to come through the mail. The handling cost is $2.00.

How does seed get into the seed bank?

The only way that your seed bank can continue to make locally grown seed available to you, is if members donate seed to the bank each season. Therefore, it is understood that you will grow some of your crops to maturity and return seed to your PSW seed bank. Someone from PSW Seed Savers may contact you regarding seed if you have chosen a variety that is short supply.

Please consider joining the “propagation team”. By volunteering to grow just one variety of seed per season (matched to your level of experience in growing food), you will help in making seed available to other members in the future.

How does shipping and handling work?

Orders will be mailed on Mondays up to, and including late November.

How long the seeds take to arrive after posting will depend on Australia Post.

The processing of your order is handled by volunteers so please be patient and polite.

Is this the whole seed catalogue?

Not all the seeed in the seed bank is offered for sale. Only seeds that are in the catalogue can be ordered. If the seed is not in the catalogue, it is currently not available.

Some seed is in short supply so may go ‘out of stock’ quickly. May we suggest you order early in the season if you really want that seed. Ideally, you would order before the end of February for autumn sowing, and before the end of August for Spring sowing.

The number of seeds in each packet varies according to the type of seed and the “rarity” in our seed bank. The quantity in each packet is shown on the individual product pages.

New varieties are added if there is enough stock to make that seed available. Entries into the Catalogue are handled by volunteers so there may be some delay in new seed being found in the Catalogue.

Does PSW have a refund policy?

It is up to you to research which variety of seed you want; that said, why not try something new instead of the same variety over and over?

Seed is grown, packed and labelled by volunteers: if the seed is not what it says it is, we apologise. We will not offer a return of your money.

Seed can only be sold to current financial members of Permaculture Sydney West. You can join PSW on this page.

Can I provide PSW Seed Savers with feedback?

PSW Seed Savers is run by volunteers. If you have a suggestion, we would love to hear from you. Whether it be from the seed varieties or the website itself, we’re are all ears! So lettuce know what we could do better and leave a message via the Contact Tab.
