Description
Basil ‘Sacred’ (“Krishna Tulsi”) is a perennial Indian herb with culinary, medicinal, and spiritual uses. The plant grows 60cm-100cm tall. The green leaves stand out against the purple stems. The small, purple and white flowers attract pollinators and other beneficial insects. WARNING: ‘Sacred’ Basil (“Krishna Tulsi”) should not be ingested by pregnant women.
Perennial basils are not frost tolerant. If frost is an issue, grow perennial basil in a container and move it to a protected area if frost is expected.
Basil ‘Sacred’ has been re-classified as Ocimum tenuiflorum. It had been Ocimum sanctum. Krishna Basil has the potential to cross-pollinate with other basils labelled Ocimum tenuiflorum or Ocimum sanctum. If collecting seed, please allow only one of these types to flower at a time. Basil ‘Krishna’ will not cross-pollinate with most other basils, which are usually Ocimum basilicum; feel free to grow the annual, edible variety of your choice alongside Krishna.
