Description

Bitter Melon is also known as ‘bitter squash’ or ‘balsam pear’ and is a popular vegetable in many Asian cuisines. It is a climbing vine to 5 metres and needs a strong trellis for support. The green fruits have a bumpy appearance and can grow up to 30cm long. The flavour is sharp and pungent. Bitter melons can be picked young, from 5cm, and are usually eaten cooked. Older fruits are used as an ingredient in curries.
