Description
Broad Bean ‘Red Epicure’ is less well-known than Broad Bean ‘Aquadulce’. It is an annual, high‑yielding plant, growing up to 1.8m, which may need staking. The white flowers develop into green pods which are 7cm long, encasing, on average, four to six red beans. This variety has a creamy flavour. Steam the young beans; don’t boil.
Slugs and snails love fresh young growth and will climb high to get it.
Since there are only five seeds in the packet, it would be a good idea to buy two packets. The seeds in the photo are fresh seeds ready to eat. Seeds harvested for dried beans or storage should be left on the plant until the plant dies and the seeds rattle inside the pods.
