Description

Cannas are ornamental plants which can grow up to 2 metres tall, with a width of 90cm. The leaves are large and deeply veined. Canna plants bloom in summer and/or autumn. This seed was collected from a Canna whose flowers were orange and yellow with brown spots. These plants can be used to shade chicken coops in summer; our hens love eating the young leaves. Canna, planted densely, can form a good windbreak. Canna grows best in damp soil. It can often be seen growing over septic tanks near older houses in rural areas.
Cannas can be cross-pollinated with other varieties. Therefore, the seed collected from one plant may not produce flowers of the same colour or patterning as the mother plant.
