Description
Celery ‘Peppermint Sticks’ is a quick growing plant to 50cm. The red and green stems are thinner than conventional celery and have a very robust flavour, more suited to cooking than eating fresh. ‘Peppermint Sticks’ is named for the colour of the stems; the flavour is celery, not peppermint.
Celery plants need lots of water. They become bitter if the soil is not kept moist enough. They can be grown in full sun to part shade. Afternoon shade is recommended in warm weather. Celery can be grown in containers and wicking beds.
Celery is a biennial plant which means that it produces flowers and seeds in the second year. Allow the flowers to turn brown and the seeds to form before removing from the plant. Harvesting is easiest if the whole flowering head and stems are placed in a paper bag upside-down.
