Description
Hon Tsai Tai, also known as purple Choi Sum or flowering Chinese broccoli, is an Asian vegetable with purple stems to 45cm. The stems, green leaves and yellow flowers are all edible. The flavour is sweet and mustardy. Use in salad, stir fry or soup.
Hon Tsai Tai can cross-pollinate with other Brassica chinensis plants, such as choi sum (Choy san). If growing for seed production, allow only one variety to go to flower at a time.
Like all brassicas, Hon Tsai Tai needs protection from cabbage butterflies and moths, and cabbage aphids.
