Description
Kohlrabi ‘Purple Vienna’ is an annual vegetable originally from northern Europe. The “bulb”, which forms above the ground, is really a swelling of the base of the stem. This variety has purple skin and white, sweet flesh, which can be eaten raw or cooked.
Kohlrabi can cross-pollinate with each other, and other Brassica oleracea plants, such as broccoli, cabbage, collards, and kale. If growing for seed production, allow only one variety to go to flower at a time.
Like all brassicas, kohlrabi needs protection from cabbage butterflies and moths, and cabbage aphids.
