Description
Lettuce ‘Black Seeded Simpson’ is an heirloom from the 1700s. It has large, light green, curly leaves. This variety matures quickly. Pick outside leaves as required or harvest whole head. This variety tolerates part shade, which is especially useful in summer. Succession sow every three weeks to increase harvest length.
All varieties of lettuce, whether looseleaf, butterhead, cos, Romaine, or iceberg can be easily cross-pollinated with each other. If growing more than one variety for seed, the best strategy is to allow only one variety to be in flower at a time.
