Description
Mexican Marigold is a tall variety, up to 1.5 metres. The plant bears red flowers edged with yellow. Flowering continues over a long period. Deadhead regularly to prolong flowering; this means remove the flower heads as they die off. Marigolds attract beneficial insects and are said to repel aphids, white fly and mosquitoes. Like many marigold species, Mexican Marigold self-seeds freely. The name of this particular variety is unknown.
Young marigold plants can be cut down and dug into the ground to kill harmful nematodes.
This variety can cross-pollinate with other varieties of Tagetes erecta; It is unlikely to cross-pollinate with other species (eg Tagetes patula)
