Description

Tomato ‘Ponderosa Red’, sometimes simply called ‘Beefsteak’, is an heirloom from the 1890s. It is an indeterminate (climbing) vine that will need staking. The large, soft fruits have low acidity. A good variety for slicing. ‘Ponderosa Red’ grows well in humid weather.
Tomatoes are “buzz pollinated”. Cross-pollination is unusual but it can happen if there are bees, particularly the Australian native blue-banded bee going from the flowers of one plant to the flowers of another.
