Description
Watermelon ‘Charleston Grey’ was developed in the 1950s. Large fruit to 15kg. The skin is grey-green, red flesh has sweet flavour. ‘Charleston Grey’ produces earlier in the season than most other types of watermelon. This variety is susceptible to mildew which affects the leaves, rarely, the fruit; avoid overhead watering.
Any watermelon can cross-pollinate with other varieties of watermelon but cannot cross-pollinate with rockmelons, honeydew melons or specialty-type melons like ‘Santa Claus’.
