Description
Chicory ‘Coffee’ is a perennial plant to 100cm, 60cm wide. Used as a caffeine-free coffee substitute by harvesting, drying and grinding root. Tangy leaves can be eaten raw or cooked, or made into tea. Blue flowers in summer.Chicory prefers full sun, will drained soil and consistent moisture. It likes medium to high soil fertility. Use and organic liquid feed every fortnight.To collect seed, cut the branches with seed heads when they turn brown and the flowers have no petals. Place upside down in a paper bag for a minimum of two weeks to dry thoroughly. Rub the stems between your hands or use a rolling pin to release the seeds; winnow as necessary.
