Description
Kohlrabi ‘Gigante’ is a Czech heirloom to 30cm tall. The large “root”, or swelling at the base of the stem, can be up to 25 cm around. This variety is flavoursome and mild. Eat raw in slaw or salads or cooked by steaming or soup.
Kohlrabi can cross-pollinate with each other, and other Brassica oleracea plants, such as broccoli, cabbage, collards, and kale. If growing for seed production, allow only one variety to go to flower at a time.
Like all brassicas, kohlrabi needs protection from cabbage butterflies and moths, and cabbage aphids.
