Description

Broccoli ‘Purple Sprouting’ is an annual Italian variety to 50cm. Green stalks with small to medium-sized purple heads. Purple colour fades when cooked. Continues producing small heads after each pick.Broccoli plants are gross feeders and need rich soil. Feed fortnightly with a liquid organic feed. Will need protection from butterfly/moth caterpillars and aphids.Broccoli are the same species as broccolini, cabbage, cauliflower, collards, kale, and kohlrabi so they may cross-pollinate.Seeds are collected from the small pods that develop after the plant has gone to flower, usually in the second year. Allow the pods to turn brown and dry on the plant. Cover with an organza or paper bag to stop seeds spreading throughout the garden.
