Description
Pumpkin ‘Spookie’ is an heirloom from the 1960s; a cross between ‘Jack O Lantern’ and ‘Sugar Pie’. The round fruits, 15–20cm across, weigh up to 2kg. The skin is bright orange; the flesh is yellow-orange and fine textured with a sweet taste. This variety is ideal for pumpkin pies.
This variety of squash will cross-pollinate with any other variety of Cucurbita pepo which includes some squash, some zucchini and some pumpkins. If you are collecting seeds and concerned about cross-pollination, please refer to the Latin name of squash, pumpkin and/or zucchini plants before growing.
