Description
Chinese Celery is more tender than “common” celery. It has a similar upright growth habit. The stems are sweet and juicy. They can be used raw or cooked. The spicy leaves can be used fresh or dried.
Celery plants need lots of water. They become bitter if the soil is not kept moist enough. They can be grown in full sun to part shade. Afternoon shade is recommended in warm weather. Celery can be grown in containers and wicking beds.
Celery is a biennial plant which means that it produces flowers and seeds in the second year. Allow the flowers to turn brown and the seeds to form before removing from the plant. Harvesting is easiest if the whole flowering head and stems are placed in a paper bag upside-down.
