Description
Rockmelon ‘Delice de la Table’ is a French heirloom variety from 1885. The fruit is deeply ribbed and quite thick between the ribs. The light-orange flesh has intense flavour and was the 2009 winner of a taste test (Australia). The vine produces 4–5 ribbed fruits per plant, each weighing up to 1.5kg. The fruit stores well.
Vines can be trained to grow vertically, saving space and increasing airflow. Support fruit in nets.
All varieties of rockmelon can cross-pollinate with other Cucumis melo varieties, which includes melons like honeydew and ‘Santa Claus’. Rockmelons cannot easily be crossed with watermelon (except in a laboratory).
